Yu Xiuhua and Fan Jian

In 2017, the Chinese Flagship Program invited the famous female poet Yu Xiuhua 余秀华 and the documentary film maker Fan Jian 范俭 to campus. “Still Tomorrow” (摇摇晃晃的人间), Fan’s acclaimed documentary about Yu Xiuhua’s life as a poet in rural China coping with with cerebral palsy, was followed by a lively Q&A in which Yu talked about how poetry has allowed her to escape her physical chains and to find emotional fulfillment.
